The government has issued a stern warning to Kenyans over fraudulent job offers purportedly available in South Korea, urging citizens to remain vigilant and avoid being duped.
In a statement released on Thursday, May 8, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that no official recruitment for jobs in South Korea is currently being conducted through government channels.
“We strongly advise all Kenyans to avoid engaging with any agencies or individuals offering jobs in South Korea without proper documentation or government verification,” said Roseline Njogu, the Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs.
Njogu noted that after receiving multiple reports of suspicious job postings, the Ministry — in partnership with the Kenyan Embassy in Seoul and South Korean authorities — carried out a detailed investigation and found the job offers to be fraudulent.
“These offers have been confirmed as fake. Our priority remains protecting the welfare of Kenyans abroad,” she stated.
The false advertisements reportedly claimed that job placements were available at “Rural Plus Centres” in several counties within South Korea’s Jeollanam-do Province, including Haenam, Wando, Jindo, Yeongam, and Jangheung.
In response, companies allegedly named in the fake adverts have disassociated themselves from any recruitment of Kenyan workers and confirmed they do not have partnerships with any Kenyan recruitment agencies.
The Ministry’s warning comes amid a rise in scams targeting job seekers looking for opportunities abroad, particularly in Asian countries. Officials are urging the public to verify all overseas job offers through official government channels to avoid falling victim to trafficking or exploitation.
