The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has announced that Terminal 1E at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) will temporarily close on Thursday, October 10, 2024, for essential rehabilitation works.

In a notice shared on Tuesday, KAA stated that the terminal closure, starting at 7:00 a.m., is necessary to ensure the safety of passengers and staff. Airlines operating from Terminal 1E will be redirected to the main Terminal 1A during the renovation period.

“KAA would like to inform you that Terminal 1E at JKIA will be temporarily closed starting Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 0700hrs to facilitate essential rehabilitation works. During this period, all affected airlines will be processed through Terminal 1A,” KAA said in a statement.

Terminal 1E, a hub for international arrivals, houses immigration and customs checkpoints, and serves several major airlines. Its closure is expected to impact international passengers temporarily. Flights will now operate from Terminal 1A, which opened last year and can accommodate up to 2.5 million passengers annually.

This development comes amid debates around the proposed Public-Private Partnership Investment Proposal, which has faced parliamentary scrutiny over plans to invite Adani Holdings Group to manage JKIA for 30 years. The Transport Committee has directed KAA to halt discussions with Adani until further review.
