A police officer has been arrested after losing his firearm, wallet, and mobile phone to boda boda riders following a night of heavy drinking along the Eastern Bypass.

According to a police report obtained by the media, Police Constable Peter Mburu, along with friends, visited a drinking joint in Mihang’o near the National Police College Campus around 9:30 p.m. After several hours of drinking, they moved to another nearby establishment, continuing until 2:00 a.m., when they parted ways.

As Officer Mburu made his way to his parents' home in Green Court, Mihang’o, he was confronted by two individuals on a boda boda motorcycle. The confrontation led to the theft of his Ceska pistol, loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, his wallet containing a certificate of appointment and bank cards, and his mobile phone.

Mburu reported the incident at a nearby police station. Officers from Mihang’o and the DCI Kayole team visited the scene and the two establishments the officer and his friends frequented that night. They also visited the residence of Mburu's parents in Green Court.

The officer’s wife confirmed that he left home armed earlier that day. When found, Officer Mburu, who appeared intoxicated, was taken into custody to aid in the investigation.

During questioning, Mburu was unable to accurately describe the location of the incident. He had visible bruises on his mouth, elbows, and right knee, and his trousers and t-shirt were torn.

Authorities have launched an investigation to recover the lost firearm.
