Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka announced on Wednesday that the opposition coalition, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya, will soon establish its own shadow Cabinet.
Speaking during the Katiba@14 address at Ufungamano House, Kalonzo revealed that this unofficial ministerial team would include Kenyans from all age groups, including Gen Z, who have recently shown strong opposition to the government. The shadow Cabinet will be tasked with monitoring and holding President William Ruto’s administration accountable.
Kalonzo, who has declared himself the official opposition leader, also criticized President Ruto's ongoing trip to Luo Nyanza, suggesting that the public is well aware of the president's true intentions and that he would struggle to win an election if it were held today.
“The first major announcement from Ufungamano is that we’re going to form a shadow Cabinet. Gen Z and all generations will be included. We must hold this government accountable from every corner, every ministry," Kalonzo stated. "We will fight them at every stage; we will fight them from the mountaintops, the valleys, the street corners…we will not allow them to turn this country into a Banana Republic. Even if he goes to Luo Nyanza 20 times to launch projects 30 times, Kenyans know him.”
Kalonzo’s remarks come after President Ruto recently appointed what he described as a broad-based Cabinet that included members from the opposition Azimio-allied Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party. This move has sparked criticism from both the public and political figures within the Azimio coalition.
