Thirty Kenyans arrested for urinating in Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD) have been ordered to clean the City Mortuary and other locations as part of their punishment.

Nairobi County Chief Officer for Environment, Geoffrey Mosiria, announced that the offenders would be released after completing their assigned cleaning duties.

Those caught in the act were divided into groups, with some sent to clean Uhuru Park and others assigned to clean areas within the CBD.

"You will now serve as our brand ambassadors, educating others on the importance of not urinating in public spaces. Let this be a lesson to everyone—anyone caught breaking the law will be arrested, taken to court, and assigned similar tasks," Mosiria stated.

The crackdown on illegal urination in Nairobi is part of a broader effort by the county government to restore order and maintain cleanliness in the city. Mosiria emphasized that anyone caught urinating on the streets of Nairobi would face legal action.

"Tonight, 30 people have been apprehended in the CBD and will appear in court," Mosiria confirmed, adding that the county is committed to restoring dignity and order in Nairobi.

In addition to targeting public urination, the county government is also cracking down on littering and illegal dumping. Plans are underway to open and manage more public facilities for waste disposal and sanitation, with some operating around the clock to accommodate those working late hours.

"We aim to ensure these facilities are accessible even at night, and they will be distributed across the city," Mosiria said, acknowledging that the lack of public facilities often forces individuals to relieve themselves on the streets.
