Deputy President Gachagua Dismisses Resignation Rumors Amid Impeachment Battle

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has not resigned, despite the circulation of a fake resignation letter online. The letter falsely claimed that Gachagua had stepped down for personal reasons amid an ongoing impeachment process in Parliament.

Reliable sources from both President William Ruto's and Gachagua’s offices confirmed the resignation claims are baseless. The letter, addressed to "The People of Kenya," lacked the necessary official signatures and seals, discrediting its validity.

Gachagua’s legal team, led by Paul Muite, has already moved to block the impeachment proceedings, emphasizing the importance of Kenya's constitutional sovereignty. The case is expected to reach a critical point when Chief Justice Martha Koome rules on whether a judicial panel will oversee the case.

The Deputy President faces 11 charges, which will be individually voted on by the Senate. If even one charge is upheld, Gachagua could be impeached, losing significant retirement benefits. However, a voluntary resignation before impeachment could have preserved perks, including a lump sum payout and other privileges.

With overwhelming opposition in the National Assembly, where 282 MPs voted for his removal, Gachagua faces an uphill battle as the political and legal fight continues to escalate.
