PS Kimtai Urges Action as Kenyans Face Issues with SHA Registration and Access to Healthcare

Health Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai revealed on Thursday that many Kenyans are facing challenges in accessing healthcare services due to issues with Social Health Authority (SHA) registration. Speaking in Kilifi County, PS Kimtai highlighted that some employers have not yet remitted the required deductions under the new health scheme, leaving employees ineligible for care.

Kimtai emphasized that Kenyans who have enrolled in SHA should take two key steps: confirm with their employers that deductions are being remitted and review their health benefits under the new system to ensure full access to services.

The Ministry of Health recently announced that 12.5 million Kenyans have been registered with SHA, but concerns are growing as public sector unions threaten protests if the government does not resolve issues affecting healthcare access. Union leaders have criticized SHA for higher deductions while offering fewer services, causing widespread dissatisfaction among workers.
