In a surprising turn of events, prominent lawyer Ndegwa Njiru has joined Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s legal team, just two months after using his social media platform to openly criticize the DP.

Njiru, known for representing high-profile political figures in Kenya, confirmed his involvement in Gachagua’s defense via his X account on October 7, 2024. "Humbled to be in the DP Riggy G defense team…Let sanity prevail. In God we trust," he wrote, marking a dramatic shift from his earlier stance.

Previously, Njiru had been one of Gachagua’s most vocal critics, even expressing support for the impeachment motion against him. In August, Njiru had tweeted, "I warned the Mt. Kenya TUGEGES that the former DO who is Kagege 001, @rigathi call for our unity was, is, and will always be ill-willed...This time round bwana DO, we are not boarding!"

Now, however, Njiru is part of the 20-lawyer team defending Gachagua, led by Senior Counsel Paul Muite. The team, including lawyers who played significant roles in past presidential election petitions, aims to protect Gachagua against the 11 charges outlined in the impeachment motion.

Njiru's sudden shift has sparked reactions from his followers, with some questioning his motives. However, the outspoken lawyer remains steadfast, dismissing critics and emphasizing his commitment to his new legal role.

This legal defense comes as the National Assembly gears up for a debate on Gachagua’s impeachment, with the stakes higher than ever for the embattled Deputy President.
