Siaya High Court Judge Daniel Ogembo was found dead inside his residential house in Siaya Town on the morning of Wednesday, July 17.
Until his untimely death, Ogembo was the presiding judge at Siaya High Court.
Siaya County Governor James Orengo led the nation in mourning the judge, stating, "Justice Ogembo had a marvelous ability to listen intently, reflect quietly, and then interject, usually with a brief few words that brought clarity in the courtroom. May his soul rest in eternal peace."
According to his driver, Judge Ogembo had complained of not feeling well on Tuesday afternoon, despite honoring his work calendar. When he did not respond to calls and texts on Wednesday morning, the driver sought help to break into his home and check on him.
While the Judge stayed on the residential property alone, his family was notified and rushed to the scene to open the house and confirm the body.
Police officers also arrived on the scene and took his body to the mortuary for an autopsy.
Before being posted to Siaya, Ogembo had served in the Eldoret and Milimani High Courts.
Ogembo's death is the third to hit the Judiciary in quick succession, following the deaths of Justice David Majanja and Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti. Incidentally, Justice Majanja was being laid to rest on the same day that Ogembo was found dead.
Chief Magistrate Monica Kivuti died on June 15, after succumbing to gunshot injuries inflicted by a police officer during an open-court session.
