President William Ruto on Thursday announced that the government would continue its normal operations despite the dismissal of his entire Cabinet, with the exception of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi.

Addressing the nation from State House, Ruto revealed that Principal Secretaries and other government officials would oversee ministry operations. Mudavadi will also retain his role as the CS for Foreign Affairs.

"During this process, the operations of government will continue uninterrupted under the guidance of Principal Secretaries and other relevant officials. I will be announcing additional measures and steps in due course," he stated.

Some of the Principal Secretaries taking charge of key government operations include Raymond Omollo (State Department for Interior and National Administration), Chris Kiptoo (National Treasury), Patrick Mariru (Defence), and Belio Kipsang (State Department for Basic Education).

Following the dismissal of the CSs, Ruto hinted at forming a unity government, expressing his intention to create a new Cabinet that includes other political formations and the private sector. He noted that the new broad-based government would be smaller due to the country's current economic state.

The new government will prioritize addressing key issues such as corruption and the country's significant debt, which currently stands at Ksh10 trillion.

"I will immediately engage in extensive consultations across different sectors and political formations, with the aim of setting up a broad-based government that will assist me in accelerating and expediting the necessary, urgent, and irreversible implementation of radical programs.

"Programs to deal with the burden of debt, raise domestic resources, expand job opportunities, eliminate wastage and unnecessary duplication of government agencies, and slay the dragon of corruption, consequently making the government lean, inexpensive, effective, and efficient," he stated.
