The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has taken a proactive step by reopening its placement portal, providing an opportunity for KCSE 2023 candidates to review and revise their applications, along with those who missed the initial application window.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, March 19, KUCCPS announced that the portal would remain accessible until April 4, 2024, facilitating the first revision of applicants' choices for placement to universities, TVET institutions, Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs), and the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).

The targeted applicants include those who were unsuccessful in securing any of their preferred choices submitted during the February/March 2024 application period, as well as KCSE 2023 examination candidates with a grade of C+ and above who did not apply for Degree Programmes during the same period.

Additionally, individuals who sat for the KCSE exams from 2000 to 2023 and have yet to enroll in a tertiary institution are encouraged to utilize this opportunity to select courses at TVET institutions nationwide.

How to Check & Revise Applications

Students who submitted applications during the initial window are advised to check the status of their applications by accessing the student portal at students.kuccps.net. In case an application to a specific course and university was unsuccessful, students can revise their choices based on their KCSE results and the respective cutoff points.

For first-time applicants, the student portal remains accessible for submitting new applications.

Addressing Concerns and Trends

In recent developments, KUCCPS CEO Agnes Mercy Wahome highlighted concerning trends observed during the initial application phase. Despite nearly 688,591 students qualifying for courses in TVET institutions with grades ranging from C to E, a significant number focused primarily on degree programs.

Moreover, Wahome noted discrepancies in program offerings, citing examples such as the absence of Irrigation System Installation courses, despite Agriculture being a priority sector in the government’s economic agenda. Similarly, media and communication courses lacked contemporary elements such as drone photography or videography, essential for many modern events.

Through the reopening of the placement portal and proactive measures, KUCCPS aims to address these challenges and ensure equitable access to quality education across various tertiary institutions in Kenya.
