"I Thought I Needed a Mzungu—Until I Met Bolo": Mueni Shares Her Journey to Lasting Love

In a candid sit-down with a YouTuber, Mueni opened up about her former belief that true love and a luxurious life could only come from marrying a white man—a belief that changed entirely when she met her husband, Bolo.

“I always wanted to marry a mzungu,” Mueni admitted. “There was a certain class and lifestyle I associated with them. But Bolo gave me all that and more—love, stability, and partnership. I now wonder why I ever had that dream. He’s the best man I’ve ever had. Even in another life, I’d still choose him.”

Mueni and Bolo, who tied the knot in a traditional wedding late last year, have become a model couple for many—blending love, business, and communication in their union. She described their relationship as deeply rooted in friendship, something she believes is key to sustaining any marriage.

“Marriage is easy when you marry your best friend,” she explained. “The romance may fade now and then, but the friendship will carry you through.”

The couple also works side-by-side at Bolo Bespoke, their fashion business. Mueni revealed that their daily routines are tightly connected, so much so that if she misses work, Bolo notices immediately.

“We wake up together, go to work together. If I don’t go to the studio, he feels it. That’s how close we are,” she said with a smile.

Mueni didn’t shy away from addressing Bolo’s past, particularly rumors of infidelity. She acknowledged that their relationship went through rocky phases during the dating period, including instances of cheating, but insists those days are behind them.

“We’ve been through it in Nairobi,” she said candidly. “If anyone is waiting for Bolo to return to his cheating era, they’ll wait forever. He’s done with that. Right now, he’s focused on success and building with me.”

Firm in her values, Mueni also shared that she’s a “one-man woman”, adding that monogamy is non-negotiable in her life.

She emphasized the importance of communication in their marriage, noting that they even plan and align their talking points before media interviews. This teamwork, she believes, is part of what makes their marriage work so well.

“We always talk before going on air. We discuss what to say and make sure we’re on the same page.”

In a world full of fleeting relationships, Mueni and Bolo's love story stands out—not because it’s perfect, but because it’s grounded in realism, resilience, and respect.
