The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a planned temporary closure of a section of Mombasa Road for maintenance works. The closure will be in effect from Tuesday, July 11, to Sunday, July 16, affecting the stretch between the Nairobi Expressway exit at Mlolongo and the Athi River Interchange.

KeNHA stated that the closure is necessary to facilitate highway maintenance along this section. The affected carriageway, the Mombasa-bound lane, will be closed daily from 10:00 pm to 4:00 am, with normal traffic flow resuming each day at 4:30 am upon completion of the works.

During the closure, traffic will be diverted to share a single adjacent lane of the dual carriageway. Motorists are urged to exercise caution, follow traffic signs and guidance provided by traffic marshals and police officers.

The temporary closure is expected to cause disruptions and potential congestion, particularly in the area where trucks often load and offload goods from adjacent industries. Notably, Mombasa Cement and Polytanks and Containers Kenya Limited are among the industries located in the affected stretch.

Additionally, residents living in Delta Plain Estate, Marimbeti, and Sheshe Gardens, as well as visitors to the Signature Mall during the maintenance hours, will experience the impact of the closure.

KeNHA is the authority responsible for the development, rehabilitation, management, and maintenance of all national trunk roads across Kenya. The temporary closure aims to ensure the continued safety and improvement of the road infrastructure for the benefit of motorists and the general public.
