Former president Daniel Arap Moi’s press secretary Lee Njiru has told Kenyans to get used to seeing Deputy President William Ruto on the political scene.
“Ruto is now 55 years .. people of Kenya must learn to see his face because they will see it for a long time, in the next 40 years,” he said.
Lee was speaking on Wednesday during a show on Citizen Tv.
He further revealed that politics has no permanent enemies and the likes of Ruto, Raila Odinga, and Musalia Mudavadi are all political cousins.
“All those people are political cousins and can turn against you. They belong to the same clan,” Lee added.
He recounted Kenya’s history and how it is repeating itself through President Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio La Umoja One Coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
Lee said when the late President Moi was the leader of the opposition in KANU used to attack the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta very bitterly and peace was later made.
“In 1964, Kenyatta called Moi and told him he knew he was attacking him. But they were both politicians. Kenyatta told Moi ‘let us come and greet each other because the Kikuyu come from the East and Kalenjin from the West,'” he explained.
In the events that followed, Kenyatta and Moi met in Nakuru and a handshake happened.
“They buried the hatchet, greeted each other and got land for their people in the Rift Valley and that is how Moi rose to become Vice President and later the second President of Kenya,” Lee narrated.
According to him, Moi had taken the position of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
However, when Moi ascended to power in 1978, another handshake took place and Jaramogi was made the chairman of the Cotton Seed and Lint marketing board because, according to Lee, they were the same politicians.
Later, Moi also extended an arm to Jaramogi’s son Raila, and he appointed him as the Minister of Energy in 2001 Moi later became Secretary General of KANU in February 2002
Wading into current politics, Lee said President Uhuru and Raila now call each other brothers despite not seeing eye to eye earlier.
He also mention former Vice president Kalonzo Musyoka, who said he would be the most stupid person to support Raila but later took a turn and rejoined him in his presidential campaigns.
“Amos Kimunya also said he would rather die than resign and he resigned. If you look at all these people they are political cousins. They are the same,” Lee added
He called upon Kenyans to think and put themselves first, noting that the politicians are all the same, and that no change will come without popular understanding.
“People of Kenya must learn to think about themselves but not those people who are already taken care of,” Lee added.
