The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for residents within Nairobi and neighboring regions, with precipitation expected to persist from Tuesday through Wednesday at 9:00 a.m.
In a weather report released on Tuesday, November 19, KMD predicted light to moderate rainfall across most of Nairobi, while specific areas would experience heavy downpours accompanied by a risk of storms. The department cautioned that the storms could disrupt daily activities.
Affected Areas in Nairobi
Areas forecasted for heavy rainfall include:
- Lang’ata
- Embakasi East, West, and South
- Makadara
- Kamukunji
- Parts of Starehe
- Roysambu
- Ruaraka
- Mathare
- Dagoretti North and South
Moderate rainfall is expected in parts of Lang’ata, Westlands, Embakasi West, and Kasarani, while Kibera and Embakasi Central are slated for lighter showers.
Neighboring Counties Also Affected
Beyond Nairobi, counties including Kajiado, Kiambu, and Machakos are also expected to experience rainfall during this period.
Other regions such as the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and the Coast will also receive varying amounts of rain. Specific areas such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi are predicted to face heavy rains with occasional thunderstorms.
Nighttime Conditions
The Highlands, Rift Valley, and Central regions are likely to experience low nighttime temperatures, adding a chilly touch to the rainy weather.
