A suspect has been arrested in connection with the tragic murder of journalist Lillian Achieng Aluko in Kahawa West, Nairobi, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reported.

The primary suspect was captured in Kaanwa, Tharaka Nithi County, just four days after Aluko’s body was discovered at a residence in Kahawa West. DCI officers collaborated with Meru County authorities to track and detain the suspect, who had evaded capture since November 1.

Authorities believe the suspect to be Aluko’s partner and are investigating potential motives for the killing. According to the DCI, the two were seen together on the night of October 31, enjoying time at a local venue before heading to the suspect’s residence.

Neighbors reported hearing loud music and screams coming from the suspect’s house later that night, leading authorities to suspect that the music may have been used to muffle Aluko’s calls for help.

Aluko, a rising radio presenter, was later found deceased in the home, with visible injuries to her face and a fatal stab wound near her right ear. The alleged murder weapon, a knife, was recovered at the scene.

The suspect is currently detained at the Kasarani Police Station and awaits arraignment as investigations continue.
