Several people sustained injuries on Friday, November 8, after a public service vehicle (PSV) bus overturned following a collision with a private car on the Thika Superhighway. The accident took place near the GSU headquarters, causing a significant traffic jam as the bus lay toppled in the middle of the road.
Images and videos from the scene showed the PSV rolled onto its side, while a blue Honda Fit was left badly damaged on its passenger side. Witnesses noted that the two vehicles appeared to have been traveling in the same direction.
Bystanders quickly gathered at the scene, working to evacuate passengers through the bus windows. One woman was observed struggling to stand, suggesting serious injuries. Several injured passengers were rushed to a nearby hospital, though no fatalities were reported.
Police officers from the nearby GSU headquarters arrived shortly afterward, dispersing onlookers and managing the traffic congestion that had begun to build up on the busy highway. This incident echoed a similar accident that occurred in September, when a bus overturned near the Roysambu roundabout after attempting to avoid a pedestrian.
Emergency personnel are urging motorists to exercise caution on the roads, especially along high-traffic areas like the Thika Superhighway.
