Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu expressed her disappointment on Monday, July 1, following a menstrual hygiene products company's denial of any collaboration with her foundation. The company refuted reports of working with Nyamu's foundation, which had claimed to be in talks to supply free tampons to schools, particularly in slum areas.

Senator Nyamu had previously announced the potential partnership with great enthusiasm, highlighting her efforts despite criticism for supporting unpopular tax policies. However, her announcement led to a public outcry, with thousands of Kenyans threatening to boycott the company’s products.

"We confirm that no discussions or conversations have taken place with Nyamu, and any assertions regarding a prospective partnership are entirely false," the company stated. The company emphasized its dedication to supporting women's progress for all Kenyans without engaging in political affiliations or endorsements.

In response, Senator Nyamu reiterated her commitment to championing women's rights. "You do not have to agree with my political affiliation, but you can appreciate this noble cause my foundation has taken up to expose our girls to alternative feminine hygiene products like tampons and period cups," she remarked.

Despite accusations of fabricating the deal, Nyamu defended her record by pointing out past successful projects announced by her foundation. "Sometimes companies forget political figures are also people, and what we do to impact the community is bigger than ourselves," she said, attributing the company's decision to disown the collaboration to public backlash.

Undeterred by the setback, Senator Nyamu pledged to continue seeking other avenues to ensure the dream of providing free tampons to schoolchildren becomes a reality.
