Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) takes decisive action in response to severe flooding, announcing the partial closure of four key roads in Nairobi. Concurrently, a traffic advisory is issued for motorists navigating Mombasa Road and Thika Road.
Amidst the ongoing deluge, KURA identifies Aerodrome Road, traversing the Upper side of Nyayo National Stadium and Upper Hill, as impassable and subsequently closed. Similarly, Kapenguria Road, adjacent to Waiyaki Way near Ndumbuini, is deemed unsafe for travel.
Furthermore, motorists are cautioned against utilizing UN Avenue, a vital route intersecting Runda, as KURA enforces partial closure to mitigate risks. Additionally, the Kasarani-Mwiki Road faces disruption at the Mwiki Bridge, prompting partial closure.
KURA extends a traffic advisory for Mombasa Road at Cabanas and Thika Road at Githurai, along with the Kahawa Sukari bridge, advising vigilance amidst challenging conditions. Assurances are provided regarding the deployment of traffic police and technical teams to manage traffic flow and ensure motorists' safety.
The decision to close roads follows intense rainfall that inundated various parts of Nairobi, resulting in widespread disruption and congestion. In the Central Business District, fallen trees along Moi Avenue impede both vehicular and pedestrian movement.
Wednesday morning witnesses significant traffic congestion on major highways as lane closures force motorists to seek alternative routes. Kenya Railways Authority responds to safety concerns by temporarily suspending commuter train services within the city.
"We wish to notify members of the public that commuter train services have been temporarily suspended due to ongoing heavy rains that have affected rail lines," the corporation states in a notice, prioritizing public safety amidst adverse weather conditions.
