The Kenya Meteorological Department issues a stern warning to residents across the nation, urging preparedness for sustained rainfall expected to persist throughout the day.

Anticipated rainfalls are forecasted to impact regions including the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley. Additionally, the North Western region and the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, encompassing Nairobi county, are also set to experience intensified rainfall.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the weather authority specifically cautioned residents within the Nairobi metropolis to brace for potentially heavy downpours. Thunderstorms are anticipated in various areas during the afternoon hours.

Flood Crisis Escalates

Against the backdrop of these forecasts, Kenya continues to grapple with a worsening flood crisis, wreaking havoc in numerous locales.

Government agencies have issued advisories, urging heightened vigilance and proactive measures to mitigate the adverse impacts of the deluge.

In response, Nairobi County has initiated emergency measures to alleviate the flood-induced challenges. Collaborating with the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), efforts are underway to ensure the accessibility of critical road networks.

Recent flooding incidents, notably along Rada Odinga Road and Langata Road junction near T-mall, underscore the severity of the situation. Governor Johnson Sakaja has emphasized the imperative for residents along riverbanks to evacuate for their safety.

Asserting the county's commitment to addressing the crisis, Sakaja underscores the importance of adherence to safety advisories and avoidance of unnecessary travel in flood-prone areas. County emergency services remain on high alert, poised to provide swift assistance.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and exercise caution, with the county's hotline number (1508) available for emergency assistance.
