Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has urged the public to refrain from speculation following the crash of a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) helicopter on Thursday afternoon.

"Dear fellow Kenyans. An official communication concerning the Military Aircraft crash shall be issued soon. Let’s avoid any speculation whatsoever at this critical juncture," his statement read in part.

Five fatalities have been confirmed, with three individuals sustaining injuries, after a tragic helicopter crash and subsequent fire in the Cheptulel area of West Pokot.

Reports indicate that the helicopter was departing from Cheptulel Boys Secondary School, ferrying multiple Kenya Defence Forces officials.

The flight followed a security summit in the West Pokot region attended by various dignitaries. Unverified sources suggest that Chief of Defence Forces Francis Ogolla may have been among the passengers.

Images circulating online depict the wreckage engulfed in flames, primarily around the engine compartment.

Access to the crash site has been restricted as KDF and authorities conduct investigations.

The summit was convened in response to President William Ruto's push for a sustainable solution to the persistent banditry in the region.

Survivors are reportedly being airlifted to Nairobi for urgent medical attention.

Senior military figures are said to be gathering at State House, Nairobi, to deliver an official statement on the unfolding tragedy.

Amidst concerns over misinformation, the public is urged to exercise restraint, given the presumed high-ranking officials involved in the incident.
