Shock and grief enveloped the Site and Service estate on the outskirts of Kericho town following the tragic death of a first-year university student by suicide under unclear circumstances.
According to a police report, Faith Charity Makhulu, a 19-year-old student, took her own life by hanging herself with a manila rope suspended from the rooftop within the corridor of her residential house.
The reasons driving the nine-month pregnant student to such a drastic act remain elusive, as no suicide note was discovered.
An anonymous provincial administration officer revealed that the student's decision to end her life may have been triggered by her boyfriend's alleged breakup.
The grim discovery of Faith's body dangling from the rooftop was made by her mother.
It is suspected that Faith took her life during the night while her family members were asleep.
Upon the mother's alarm, neighbors and passersby rushed to the scene in an attempt to save Faith, but their efforts were in vain as she had already passed away.
The incident was reported to the Kericho Police Station, prompting officers to swiftly respond, retrieve the body, and transfer it to the Kericho Referral Hospital mortuary.
Authorities have launched an investigation to uncover the motive behind this tragic event.
