At New Life Church in Mombasa, congregants were left in disbelief when a mama mboga from Burma Market in Nairobi arrived with a sack containing Ksh6 million in cash, seeking assistance from Pastor Ezekiel Odero. The incident, which occurred during a live service on February 3, 2024, was captured on video and quickly went viral.
The distraught businesswoman explained that the money belonged to her son, RO, who had allegedly hidden it in dollar denominations inside his car. She recounted how her son had invited officers from the 'Criminal Investigation Department (CID)' to their residence along Jogoo Road, claiming they were his friends. To her surprise, the officers discovered Ksh10 million in total and exchanged it for Kenyan currency, purportedly taking a share of Ksh4 million.
The mama mboga recounted how the detectives then handed her Ksh6 million in cash, instructing her to board their vehicle. They dropped her off at Burma Market before disappearing with her son, leaving her bewildered about the source of the funds, especially since her son works as a taxi driver.
Feeling confused and uncertain, she turned to Pastor Ezekiel for help, requesting him to pray for and "sanitize" the money. In response, the pastor assured her of support and security, offering her a place to stay until the truth was revealed. He pledged to cooperate with the authorities, ensuring the money returned to its rightful owner.
Acknowledging the transformation of the Criminal Investigation Department to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), located along Kiambu Road, the pastor emphasized the importance of transparency and justice in resolving the situation.
