A grieving mother has spoken out following the tragic death of her son, a 24-year-old clinical medicine student at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Kitale, who was fatally stabbed just days before his graduation.
At Cherangany Hospital Mortuary, the heartbroken mother recounted the devastating moment she was informed of her son Kiptoo’s death. Preparations were underway for his December 5 graduation when she received an alarming call.
“We were making all arrangements for his big day when I was summoned to Cherangany Hospital urgently. Initially, I was told Kiptoo was seriously injured, but later I learned he had been stabbed,” she shared tearfully.
Kiptoo’s aunt, Rose Bwamu, expressed the family’s agony and called for justice, emphasizing the need for better protection of all young people. “We often talk about protecting girls, but our boys also face dangers. We urge the government to ensure Kiptoo gets justice,” she said.
According to police, Kiptoo was stabbed in the chest on December 1 in his home in the Huruma area. Neighbors reported hearing a commotion and found Kiptoo in a pool of blood. He succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital.
Investigators recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the attack, and a manhunt has been launched for the prime suspect, who is alleged to have had a relationship with the victim and fled the scene after the incident.
The tragedy has sparked a public outcry, with many urging authorities to swiftly arrest the suspect and deliver justice for Kiptoo and his grieving family.
