The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has rolled out an updated application process for the issuance of new number plates, signaling a seamless transition of services to the eCitizen platform.

In a notice dated Monday, NTSA outlined a step-by-step guide for motorists applying for the next-generation plates, emphasizing that all applications will now be conducted through the eCitizen platform.

To initiate the process, motorists are instructed to log into their eCitizen accounts and navigate to the newly integrated NTSA service portal.

Once inside the NTSA portal, applicants should proceed to the motor vehicle section to explore the array of services offered.

The notice advised, "Click on motor vehicle services, then reflective plate. Select the plate type and counter collection office, and attach the required documents in one PDF format. Scroll down, tick the declaration box, then click preview and submit to pay for the reflective plate and click complete."

According to NTSA, applicants have the option to apply for a single or pair of reflective plates, with the single plate costing Ksh1,550 and the double reflective plate priced at Ksh3,050.

Upon the successful completion of the application steps, NTSA assures applicants that a collection notification will be sent via SMS. All applications are promised to be processed within seven working days from the date of submission.

The notice concluded, "We request motor vehicle owners who have received SMS alerts on the collection of reflective number plates to visit the centers they identified during the application process."

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi inaugurated the new generation number plates on August 30, 2022, aiming to enhance vehicle safety. The new plates boast advanced security features, including unique typography, a specially-imprinted national flag, and a hologram featuring the iconic Big Five animals.
