Several people are feared dead, while others sustained critical injuries following a tragic road accident near Two Rivers Mall in Kiambu County on Friday morning.
Eyewitnesses reported that the crash, involving a 14-seater matatu, occurred around 8 a.m. along the Ruaka-Githogoro highway. The matatu, which was en route to Kiambu Town from Ruaka, reportedly lost control, veered off the road, and crashed into a billboard before plunging into a ditch.
Preliminary reports indicate that the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) was speeding at the time of the accident.
Videos and images shared on social media depict the aftermath, showing the matatu severely damaged with shattered windows, broken seats, and deflated tires. Debris, including pieces of glass, was scattered across the road as concerned locals rushed to rescue passengers trapped in the wreckage.
Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene, and the injured victims were rushed to Kiambu Level 5 Hospital for medical attention. Police officers later arrived to assess the situation and manage traffic flow in the area.
This accident comes just a week after a devastating crash in the Migaa area along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway, where 13 people lost their lives in a collision between a trailer and a 14-seater matatu.
Authorities continue to urge motorists to exercise caution, as investigations into the cause of the Ruaka accident are underway.
