Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has strongly condemned the attack on Mumias East MP Peter Salasya at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday, March 23, calling it an act of political intolerance and disrespect.

In a statement issued on the same day, Mudavadi described the incident as unfortunate and divisive, warning that such acts threaten Kenya’s democratic values.

“What happened to Hon. Peter Salasya at Nyayo Stadium today is unfortunate. Political intolerance undermines the very foundation of our democracy, which relies on the ability to engage with differing views,” he stated.

He urged Kenyans to prioritize dialogue, mutual respect, and national unity.

“We won’t always agree, and that’s okay. But respect, dialogue, and unity must remain non-negotiable. Respect must be given, but it must also be earned. If we let division win, we risk tearing down everything we hope to build,” Mudavadi added.

Salasya was attacked during Kenya’s World Cup qualifier match against Gabon, attended by thousands of fans. The MP was roughed up and forcefully ushered out of the stadium by a section of the crowd.

Videos captured from the scene showed him struggling to break free as some fans attempted to assault him. Others hurled objects in his direction while chanting “Respect the President,” suggesting a possible link to his past remarks or actions regarding President William Ruto.

The scuffle continued into the stadium’s parking area, where supporters urged him to leave the premises.

Following the attack, Salasya took to social media, warning that any further aggression against him could lead to serious political consequences.

"Kenyans are waking up soon, and if you dare do anything to me, it will cause a big problem in this country. I will give a statement tomorrow morning," he posted.

The incident has sparked concerns over growing political tensions, with calls for tolerance and restraint among leaders and supporters alike.
