President William Ruto, on Wednesday, March 26, unveiled a fresh wave of changes in his administration, making key appointments and reassignments within his Cabinet.

Among the notable changes, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi was replaced by Geoffrey Ruku. Additionally, Hanna Wendot was nominated to lead the Ministry of Gender and Culture.

Former Environment CS Aden Duale was reassigned to the Health Ministry, while Deborah Barasa, previously in charge of health, was moved to the Ministry of Environment.

State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed stated that the reshuffle was aimed at strengthening the Cabinet to enhance the country’s socioeconomic transformation.

“These changes have been instituted to reinforce the executive’s capacity to deliver on its mandate. With this realignment, the Cabinet will be at full constitutional strength,” the statement read in part.

The new appointees, Hanna Wendot and Geoffrey Ruku, will undergo parliamentary vetting before their official appointment by the President.

“The nominees are expected to bring not only their professional expertise but also wisdom gained from their extensive and diverse careers,” President Ruto stated.

Before his nomination as Public Service CS, Ruku served as the Member of Parliament for Mbeere North. He takes over from Muturi, who held the position for just eight months since August last year.

Muturi’s removal follows his recent criticism of the government, particularly regarding allegations of abductions targeting young Kenyans. His dismissal also comes a day after President Ruto publicly questioned his competency.

During an Iftar session with the Muslim community at State House Nairobi on Tuesday, March 25, Ruto expressed dissatisfaction with Muturi’s handling of legal affairs.

“I had a problem with the AG who was there. He was fairly incompetent. But now, I have a very competent lady, and I can assure you that issues like Waqf will be resolved,” Ruto stated.

The reshuffle marks yet another strategic move by President Ruto as he continues to refine his Cabinet team.
