In a recent statement, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) refuted claims circulating online that the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results would be released between December 16 and December 22.
Contrary to the flagged publication, KNEC clarified that the marking of the KCSE exams is still in progress, and the results will be made public when they are ready.
"There has been no such statement from KNEC. The marking of KCSE is ongoing, and the results will be released when they are ready," emphasized the Examination Council.
The erroneous notice had also indicated that the marking process would conclude by December 11, a claim vehemently denied by KNEC.
According to the fake notice, the release of the results was expected to be led by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, assisted by officials from the Ministry of Education, Kenya National Examinations Council, Teachers Service Commission, and Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development.
The KCSE exams commenced on October 10 and concluded on Friday, November 24, with physics practicals, seeing a total of 903,260 candidates participating in the examinations.
KNEC's clarification follows the controversies surrounding the Ministry of Education and the Examinations Council in the aftermath of the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE). Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, while addressing the Education Parliamentary Committee, acknowledged that the KCPE exams released on November 23 had encountered errors.
Machogu attributed these errors to the company contracted for managing the QR code used in relaying results. He assured that the issues had been addressed, emphasizing that they were beyond the control of the Ministry. Additionally, Machogu debunked reports alleging that KNEC had awarded a tender to a local company for printing the 2023 national examinations.
