Amidst ongoing challenges, Governor Kawira Mwangaza has signaled her intention to request President William Ruto to dissolve the Meru County Government, citing persistent frustrations from Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) that hinder her ability to fulfill her duties.

Description:

Governor Mwangaza, facing difficulties with the MCAs, expressed her willingness on Thursday to seek the dissolution of the Meru County Government. She highlighted the alleged plans by the MCAs to impeach 12 County Executive Committee (CEC) members within her administration, portraying an environment that makes governance untenable.

The governor revealed that the MCAs, having failed in two previous attempts to impeach her, are actively exploring alternative methods to undermine her leadership.

On November 9, the Senate rejected the impeachment attempts against Governor Mwangaza, voting against all 7 allegations presented by Meru MCAs. In response to the ongoing challenges, Governor Mwangaza is considering invoking a constitutional provision that allows the President to suspend a County Government under exceptional circumstances, such as internal conflict.

Should President William Ruto accede to Mwangaza's request, the Meru County Government would be suspended for 90 days. At the end of this period, both the Governor and MCAs would need to seek a fresh mandate from the electorate. Sources suggest that the embattled governor has signaled her support for the signature collection process to initiate the dissolution exercise.

Governor Kawira Mwangaza, initially elected as an Independent Candidate, could potentially defend her seat independently or align herself with a political party of her choice if the County Government is dissolved. Notably, she has shown a previous inclination to collaborate with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), led by President William Ruto. The unfolding situation poses significant implications for Meru County's political landscape and raises questions about the future trajectory of Governor Mwangaza's leadership.
