The populace has experienced a significant surge in the prices of essential commodities, particularly fuel and food items, placing a considerable burden on households. Many citizens are grappling with the challenge of affording basic necessities, including three meals a day.

President William Ruto, on November 14, acknowledged the impact of the ongoing war in Ukraine on Africa, citing the escalation of commodity prices. He emphasized the gravity of the situation, noting that the high cost of living has particularly adverse effects on vulnerable populations.

Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura reassured the public on Wednesday that concerted efforts are underway to alleviate the cost of living. The government is actively working to implement measures aimed at providing a more comfortable and affordable way of life for the people, acknowledging the challenges posed by the economic strain induced by global events.
