The Kenya University and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has provided a crucial lifeline to students seeking admission to tertiary institutions in September 2023. In a recent statement, KUCCPS announced that 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) students will have a final chance to make changes to their initial placements if they are dissatisfied with their allocated institutions or programmes.
The deadline for inter-university or inter-programme transfers has been extended to August 15, 2023, giving students ample time to carefully reconsider their academic choices and make the best decisions for their future educational pursuits.
How to Switch Universities/Programmes
According to KUCCPS, the process of transferring institutions or programmes can only be completed online through the official portal, www.students.kuccps.net. Physical forms from preferred universities will not be accepted.
To initiate the transfer process, students should log in to the portal and navigate to the "Transfers" tab. There, they can select the specific programme they wish to switch to.
Once the desired course is chosen, the portal will prompt the student to input the program code for the preferred course. KUCCPS will then verify if the student meets the required cutoff points for the desired program and ask for a comprehensive explanation for the transfer.
To complete the transfer application, students are required to make a non-refundable payment of Ksh1,000 through mobile transfer. The transaction code received from this payment will validate the transfer application.
Once the transfer request is validated, the chosen institution will receive the application and consider it based on available slots. If the transfer is approved by the institution, it will be forwarded to the student's initial school for endorsement before final approval by KUCCPS.
Upon approval, KUCCPS will issue a transfer letter via the student's portal, serving as the admission letter to the new university or college.
Reasons for Inter-University Transfers
KUCCPS acknowledges that students may have valid reasons for wanting to switch institutions or programmes. Some of the common reasons cited by students include medical and financial challenges, as well as the need to accommodate persons with disabilities.
Furthermore, KUCCPS recognizes the importance of aligning academic pursuits with students' interests and passions. As a result, they offer flexibility in changing programmes if students find that their current course is not in line with their career aspirations.
It is important to note that KUCCPS will automatically reject transfer requests if students do not meet the cutoff points required for the preferred degree or diploma course. Therefore, students are advised to carefully consider their choices and eligibility before proceeding with the transfer application.
