Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu made a significant announcement on Monday, July 31, regarding the placement of students into different universities and higher learning institutions. Through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) platform, learners who sat for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams in 2022 can now access information about their university placements for the September 2023 intake.
CS Machogu urged school administrations to ensure that students and parents receive relevant information on reporting dates in a timely manner to facilitate a smooth transition. He directed Vice-Chancellors and Principals to release letters of admission to the students by August 2, 2023.
The process of selecting courses through the KUCCPS platform underwent multiple revisions to ensure that students were placed in courses they qualified for. Additionally, the CS emphasized that there will be a 100 percent transition of students into higher institutions of learning, while others will be placed in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to enhance their skills.
To check their placement on the KUCCPS platform, students are required to access the portal students.kuccps.net using their personal details. They need to provide their username, which is their KCSE full index number, the year (2022), and their password, which is their birth certificate number. Once logged in, students will see a message on the dashboard displaying the details of their placement, starting with the word "Congratulations," followed by the university they have been placed in, and finally, the course they will pursue.
Alternatively, students can check their placement details by sending an SMS with their KCSE index numbers (without any space or slash) to 20842. The placement results will be made available on the KUCCPS portal, allowing candidates to access their placement status easily.
Notably, KUCCPS recently opened applications for students seeking admission to the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC). The application process targets individuals who completed their KCSE examinations between the years 2013 and 2022. Students interested in pursuing courses at KMTC for the September 2023 intake have until August 4, 2023, to submit their applications through the KUCCPS portal students.
With these mechanisms in place, students can stay informed about their university placements and make the necessary arrangements to begin their higher education journey in the upcoming academic year.
