The Kenya Meteorological Department issued a weather advisory on Monday for the week ahead, forecasting heavy rainfall in several regions across the country, particularly during the first half of the week. Nairobi and other areas in the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, and the Lake Victoria basin are expected to experience rains, which may be accompanied by isolated storms.

Residents in counties such as Nairobi, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi are advised to prepare for morning rains, as well as afternoon and night showers with possible thunderstorms. In these areas, sunny intervals may break through during the day, while nights are anticipated to be partly cloudy.

Regions around the Rift Valley, southeastern lowlands, coastal areas, and northeastern Kenya — including Kisumu, Siaya, Lamu, Mombasa, and Bungoma — are also forecasted to experience rainfall with possible thunderstorms.

“Rainfall is expected in the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, southeastern lowlands, Coast, and northeastern Kenya during the first half of the week. Isolated storms may occur,” the Kenya Meteorological Department announced.

For the second half of the week, the weather is expected to shift significantly, becoming generally sunny and dry. Daytime temperatures are forecasted to rise above 30°C in many regions, particularly in northeastern and northwestern Kenya, affecting areas such as Butere, Kakamega, Busia, Wajir, Mandera, Bungoma, and Vihiga, along with parts of Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita-Taveta.

The department also highlighted a potential for chilly nighttime conditions in the Central Highlands and Central Rift Valley, where temperatures may drop below 10°C in some areas.

“Night-time (min) temperatures are expected to drop below 10°C in parts of the Central Highlands and Central Rift Valley,” added the department’s statement, urging residents to prepare for the variability in weather conditions throughout the week.
