Busia Senator and activist Okiya Omtatah has said he will be challenging the proposed Finance Bill 2023 in court. He said he will be filing a petition in the High Court after the Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1.

Omtatah said he is challenging the bill because it contains several clauses that he believes are unconstitutional. He said the bill would increase taxes on businesses and individuals, which would hurt the economy. He also said the bill would give the government too much power to control the economy.

"I am not going to allow this bill to be passed," Omtatah said. "I will fight it in court and I am confident that we will win."

The Finance Bill 2023 is a controversial piece of legislation that has been met with opposition from a number of quarters. The bill was introduced by the government in March and is currently being debated in Parliament.

The bill contains a number of provisions that have been criticized by businesses and individuals. These include a proposal to increase the Value Added Tax (VAT) rate from 16% to 18%, a proposal to increase the excise duty on fuel, and a proposal to introduce a new tax on mobile money transactions.

The government has defended the bill, saying that it is necessary to raise revenue to fund development projects. However, critics say that the bill will hurt the economy and make it more difficult for businesses to operate.

Omtatah's challenge to the bill is likely to delay its passage. The High Court will need to hear the case and make a ruling before the bill can be passed. This process could take several months.

In the meantime, the government is likely to face increasing pressure to withdraw the bill. If the bill is passed, it is likely to be challenged in court again.
