President William Ruto tapped former KTN News anchor Mike Gitonga to serve as the new Secretary State Functions.
Gitonga expressed gratitude to God, his former boss Mama Rachel and President William Ruto.
"With a new year comes new beginnings. I am first of all grateful to God.
"I also take this opportunity to thank the President of Kenya for the opportunity to serve this nation as Secretary State Functions," Gitonga acknowledged.
Gitonga assumed the position previously occupied by former Secretary State Functions, Peter Wanjohi.
In his new role, Gitonga will perform a variety of media duties including research, developing recommendations, and presenting them to the State House Chief of Staff for ratification before they are released to the public.
He will also be responsible for generating community and media interest in the executive's legislative package through e-mail outreach, targeted pitch calls, and press conferences.
"I am indebted to the First Lad. Your leadership and guidance are invaluable. I will work to the best of my ability to fulfill the responsibilities of this role, so help me God," Gitonga added.
He will also oversee the writing and distribution of news releases, talking points for public appearances and updating content on the website as well as the social media platforms of the Office of Secretary State Functions.
Before the appointment, Gitonga served as the Communication Director in the office of First Lady Rachel Ruto.
As the Director of Corporate Communications at the office of First Lady Rachel Ruto, Gitonga was in charge of the MAMA initiative.
He also contributed to programmes that were aimed at realising Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) like zero hunger, gender equality, climate action, no poverty, and quality education among others.
Gitonga is a skilled communication expert with strategic knowledge in electrical engineering, leadership development, communication, and branding.
He holds a Degree in Electrical Engineering from Nottingham University in the United Kingdom.
Gitonga also worked at Family Media which owns Family TV before joining Standard Group PLC as a news presenter for the morning show on KTN News.
The former TV presenter describes himself as a moderator, photographer and adrenaline junkie.
