National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei has urged Kenyans to be patient with despite the prevailing tough economic times.

Shollei said it will take at least one year for Kenyans to feel the impact of the new administration in correcting underlying economic shortfalls.

"We have to tighten our belts, it is going to be a difficult time probably for the next 100 days to 12 months. Kenyans will begin to see the fruits of some of the decisions in a year's time," she said during an interview on KTN.

Shollei said the economic pain will ease in a phased manner.

"We must preach to Kenyans to be patient. The pain is not going to go away immediately."

Similar sentiments were echoed by Belgut MP Nelson Koech who said  the new regime's performance will be felt after the Cabinet is fully constituted.

"The hustlers will have to wait a little bit longer to feel the impact," he said on Tuesday.

Shollei said the move by President William Ruto to subsidise cost of fertiliser is not just to undertake programmes but impact Kenyans.

Ruto directed that 1.4 million bags of fertiliser be availed to farmers at a subsidised price of Sh3,500 per 50kg bag down from the current price of Sh6,500 per 50 kg bag.

Ruto said the subsidised fertiliser will help address the high cost of living.
