Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has torn into former Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti tenure, terming him a 'drama queen'.
Speaking on Sunday, the deputy president claimed that Kinoti was not a professional and spent most of his time on drama and the press.
"We are looking for a professional DCI, not a politician, not a drama queen, not an actor," Gachagua said.
He went on to question Kinoti’s credibility, saying he was always in the media prosecuting Kenyans, while nothing came out of it.
Gachagua gave an example of the National Youth Service (NYS) where the DCI said that Sh9 billion had been stolen and someone was taken to court for Sh80 million.
"We had a DCI who was always in the press, he made a whole confusion about DCI. We want a professional DCI who will not spend his time on drama and the press, who will investigate cases properly, get evidence, take people to court and get a conviction,” he told Citizen TV.
“We want a DCI who will back the Inspector General. We want the IG to take charge."
The second in commanded added that unlike Kinoti’ style of leadership, his successor should reveal details of his investigations to the press on the charge sheet when it's complete and finalised on the date the plea is being taken.
The former DCI boss has not been on good books with the Kenya Kwanza Alliance led by President Ruto.
Before the August polls, Ruto had publicly lashed out at Kinoti asking him to keep off election matters.
“We want to tell Kinoti to stop his foolishness. Kindly save your time. Stop writing us long letters. Leave matters of elections to IEBC. Give the chairman Wafula Chebukati his space,” he said in a rally at Kapkatet stadium in Kericho County.
Last week President William Ruto while unveiling his cabinet nominees announced that Kinoti had called it quits after receiving his resignation letter.
“The commission will get someone to act in that position for now as we wait for the other processes to fill the position,” he said.
As a result, the National Police Service Commission appointed Massa Salim as the acting Director of Criminal Investigations for 14 days pending recruitment of a substantive one.
