The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has corrected the tally of Deputy President William Ruto’s votes in the Kiambu constituency following a mismatch in Forms 34A and 34B.
According to final results released by the IEBC, Ruto garnered 41,050 votes in the constituency and not 51,050 as indicated in the the results submitted earlier.
This error was established during the verification of the forms submitted to the Commission by the constituency Returning Officers. The mistake was, however, a transcription error made by an IEBC Commissioner who later made a correction after questions were raised over the imbalanced numbers.
However, the tally of votes in favour of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party flagbearer, Raila Odinga, of 14,860 as entered by the Returning Officer was not affected.
The final results of the county as announced by IEBC were Raila Odinga 14,860 votes, William Ruto 41,050 votes, Waihiga Mwaure 318 votes and George Wajackoyah 318 votes.
The total valid votes cast stood at 56,546 out of which 392 were rejected in an electoral area whose parliamentary seat went to Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
John Waithaka was declared the MP-elect.
