The daughter of Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula, Sheila Wetangula, showered praises on her father after his party’s impressive performance in the provisional presidential results.
She took to her social media account on Wednesday, August 10, in celebration of the voter turnout rate in Bungoma.
According to Sheila, the results were an indication that Bungoma, which is among the conventional ODM’s strongholds was upset with Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s alleged betrayal of her dad.
“Do not mess with Papa wa Roma, we have really given Raila a lesson, hahaha,” she stated, affectionately addressing her father by his political nickname.
Provisional results streaming from Wednesday evening depicted that William Ruto garnered 76 percent of the total cast votes at Wetangula’s polling station in Namakhele Primary School, beating his opponent Raila Odinga by a big margin.
“Bungoma has made us proud, we are giving Ruto 80 per cent, Raila after betraying us thought we will vote for him. The voter turnout was massive in Bungoma,” the statement read.
The daughter also revisited the circumstances that led to Wetangula being ousted from the position of the Minority Leader in the Senate where he uttered the now famous “messy-noisy divorce” remarks.
“The divorce was surely messy with a lot of casualties. Ford Kenya has delivered 95 per cent of all MCAs seats, coup plotters have all been shown the door,” the younger Wetangula stated.
In solidarity with her dad and civic duty, Sheila flew from Switzerland where she is based to cast her vote in Kenya.
Wetangula was among Ruto’s footsoldiers in the western region who were tasked to deliver 70 per cent of the region’s votes to the Kenya Kwanza camp. He was also well-placed to defend his senate seat, according to provisional results.
The Ford Kenya boss and his Amani National Congress counterpart Musalia Mudavadi decamped from the now moribund National Super Alliance (NASA) after accusations of betrayal from Raila Odinga.
The two parties accused ODM, which was among the parties under the NASA umbrella, of disregarding the agreements signed at its inception in the run-up to the 2017 elections.
His exit from NASA was followed by several attempts to dislodge him as party leader albeit in futility.
Wetangula is hoping to defend his seat as the Bungoma Senator. Other notable Kenya Kwanza candidates in Bungoma include Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka who is vying for the county’s gubernatorial seat.
