Second liberation hero and Senior Counsel, Paul Muite, has responded to questions over his health status after pictures started circulating online.

Kenyans on social media raised questions on his health after photos showed the aging celebrated Senior Counsel looking frail.

In his response, Muite confirmed that he was healthy and not under any time of treatment amid speculations by Kenyans online that he was suffering from cancer. The lawyer stated that due to his advanced age, he was forced to change his lifestyle including diet and this has seen him shed a lot of weight.

“Reports on social media that I am sick with cancer are not true. Given my age, I have had to shed off weight on purpose to keep sugar levels where they should be, otherwise I have never felt better; enjoyed one and a half hours jogging in Ngong forest this morning,” Muite stated.

The lawyer dismissed reports that he was battling cancer after the rumour started over a picture of him went viral on social networks.

His friends including Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi voiced their support of Muite after he issued his statement. Ahmednasir noted that his colleague was in good health and castigated online users who were peddling malicious information.

“I had lunch with Hon Paul Muite, SC yesterday. I have known him for 30 years and meet him regularly on a weekly basis and was dismayed and utterly disappointed with the malicious rumours on his health. Paul is in very good health,” Ahmednasir stated.

Questions about Muite’s health emerged after Raila Odinga Presidential Secretariat spokesman and law professor, Makau Mutua, shared their picture after a lunch meeting they had on June 6 this year.

In law circles, Muite’s name features prominently and he is well respected by colleagues and Kenyans at large for his contribution to the political history of the country.

Muite served as vice chairman of the Forum for the Restoration of Democracy (Ford Kenya) and is the founding chairman of the Safina Party of Kenya.

The SC previously served as a law clerk in the years preceding Kenya’s attainment of independence.

He was a prominent figure in Kenya’s second liberation struggle during the 1990s to remove the single-party dictatorship established by the Kenya African National Union in 1982.
