The car that the missing General Service Unit (GSU) officer was using on the day of his disappearance has been found abandoned.
The car, reportedly hired by Joseph Otieno, was found abandoned in Mwiki, Kasarani.
Otieno, a 36-year-old GSU officer, attached to the GSU headquarters in Ruaraka, was reported missing by his wife, Caroline Adhiambo, on Sunday, July 11.
“I left the house around 7.30 am and left him in the house. He did not tell me anything because we all knew we will be heading home in the following morning,” Caroline said.
According to Caroline, her husband went missing on July 9 and has not been seen or heard since then.
The officers in charge of the case said his phone signal was last picked up in Naivas Supermarket in Ruaraka at 11.13 am. on Friday, July 9.
“Efforts to trace him have been in vain as his phone has been switched off and his whereabouts unknown,” the occurrence book (OB) report read.
Crime scene investigators conducted forensic analysis on the vehicle, searching for clues on fingerprints and DNA leads in the case.
A multi-agency team comprising detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the GSU has been formed to conduct a search and rescue operation.
“The search mission was conducted around Mwiki Gituamba farm where the last car track signal was traced,” the lead detective stated.
The missing officer’s report comes against the backdrop of increasing kidnapping cases countrywide.
