David Wanjohi's life is unlike any other, as he has spent decades working within the somber walls of Nairobi Funeral Home, formerly known as City Mortuary. Rising from a mortuary attendant in 1983 to now the senior superintendent, Wanjohi's journey has been intertwined with death, both personally and professionally.

For over a decade, Wanjohi and his family called the compound behind the bustling morgue their home. Despite the initial apprehension of living amidst death, they found solace and security within the compound's confines. Even when Wanjohi felt the need to relocate, his wife insisted on staying, attesting to the peace they found there.

Security concerns notwithstanding, many mortuary attendants opt to reside within the compound, drawn by its relative tranquility. Yet, the eerie surroundings occasionally manifest challenges, as Wanjohi's son once encountered a chilling discovery while playing—an unintended encounter with a coffin.

Despite the macabre environment, Wanjohi's dedication to comforting bereaved families remains steadfast. Beyond his duties, he extends empathy and support, offering solace to those grappling with loss. His daily routine involves not just preserving the departed but also uplifting the spirits of the grieving, a task he undertakes with unwavering compassion.

In his commitment to providing solace, Wanjohi finds fulfillment, believing that his efforts bring a semblance of hope to those in despair. Amidst the perpetual cycle of life and death, his mission is simple yet profound: to offer comfort and compassion amidst the darkest moments of life.
