Controversial televangelist Pastor Ng'ang'a has clarified his decision to disassociate himself from the ongoing medical appeal for his grandson, Jonathan Wise, who is battling a severe case of B-ALL Leukemia.
Jonathan's mother, Naomi Wangari Maina, Ng'ang'a's eldest daughter and a singer-evangelist, had recently appealed to the public for financial assistance amounting to Sh4.5 million to support her son's medical treatment.
Jonathan's health struggles began with a diagnosis of Bilateral Retinoblastoma, a rare eye cancer, just two weeks after his birth on January 20, 2018. The condition escalated, leading to an urgent inoculation procedure at six weeks old. Subsequently, chemotherapy became a regular part of Jonathan's life over the next three years, necessitating frequent visits to the operating theatre every three weeks.
In her recent plea for financial aid, Naomi detailed the substantial medical expenses required for her son's ongoing treatment.
However, when approached by media on December 6, Pastor Ng'ang'a expressed reservations about being linked to the current medical appeal, stating, "At this moment, I prefer not to be linked to that particular case. I have my reservations regarding it."
It is noteworthy that in 2020, the family successfully organized a fundraiser, generating sufficient funds to facilitate Jonathan's treatment in India. Despite these efforts, the young boy has yet to fully recover.
Naomi, who shares a close relationship with her father since they first met in 2007, was born during Ng'ang'a's earlier years as a herdsman in Kinangop. The current controversy surrounding Ng'ang'a's decision to distance himself from the medical appeal adds a layer of complexity to the ongoing saga of Jonathan's health struggles.
