Saumu Mbuvi, the daughter of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, recently shared her insights into the advantages and disadvantages of being the offspring of a prominent political figure.

In a candid interview with the media, Saumu delved into the complexities of her unique position in society.

As a mother of two and a well-known public figure in her own right, Saumu Mbuvi acknowledged that her family's political background has afforded her certain benefits. These include easier access to influential individuals and the ability to rally support when advocating for various causes.

"Being the daughter of a political figure has its perks. It has made it easier for me to reach out to various people whenever I want to champion something," she stated.

However, she also openly discussed the drawbacks of her high-profile lineage.

Saumu emphasized that her ties to politics have exposed her to insincere relationships and the intrusion of opportunistic individuals into her life.

"It's both a blessing and a curse being the daughter of a political figure," she observed.

"One of the many privileges is having a good role model to look up to, and also I get to enjoy certain privileges, gaining access to better things. But it also attracts a lot of fake friendships and people who want to exploit me for their own agendas."

Saumu is actively promoting her foundation, 'Pamoja We Can,' which focuses on raising awareness about mental health.

"I am a survivor of bipolar disorder, and I have personally lived with this condition for more than seven years now. As I continued to share my own experiences, I realized that countless people, especially in our generation, were silently suffering and afraid to speak out. This is why I made the decision to step forward and become a voice for those who have been silenced. Our mission is to support and guide young individuals, preventing them from resorting to substance abuse as a coping mechanism for stress. We want to convey the message that it's perfectly okay not to be okay."
