Online comedian and actress Sylvia Savai, popularly known for her Senjee Comedy skits, is preparing to sue Pulselive and Ghafla Kenya after both platforms falsely reported her death last week.
The blogs published posts with her photo, claiming the 35-year-old had passed away. Although Pulselive later removed the post and issued a public apology, Ghafla Kenya pulled the content without offering any apology.
Senjee, who is currently battling endometriosis, expressed outrage at the “reckless” reporting, stating it caused her immense emotional and psychological distress.
“These people have ruined my mental health,” she told the media. “I woke up to RIP messages, missed calls, and devastation in my family. My mother, who was in the village, nearly fainted when people began offering condolences at her shop. This recklessness is unacceptable.”
The comedian also recalled a previous incident involving Pulselive in June when she was fundraising for medical treatment. “They published inaccurate figures about my fundraising effort, and I had to request corrections. It shows a pattern of carelessness, and I seem to be their soft target because of my health condition,” she said.
In their apology, Pulselive admitted to mistakenly using Senjee’s photo while reporting the death of another actress, Eilene Otieno, known as Senje, who died on set. However, Senjee insists the apology is insufficient given the mental anguish and reputational damage caused.
“This is not just about an apology,” she said. “The misinformation has taken a toll on my mental health and my family’s well-being. It has also harmed my brand. They cannot hurt me repeatedly and get away with it. I will seek legal redress.”
The incident has sparked discussions about ethical journalism and the responsibility of media platforms to verify information before publication.
