Popular film director Philip Karanja and his former wife, Catherine Kamau, widely known as Kate Actress, have shed light on the reason behind the sale of the black BMW X3 that was initially gifted to Kate as a push gift.

In a recent interview with the media, Karanja revealed that he decided to sell the luxury vehicle, valued at approximately Sh3.5 million, due to its exorbitant maintenance costs. He expressed regret over the initial decision to purchase the car, citing the high expenses associated with its upkeep.

“I love cars a lot, and so I was young and foolish, and I spent so much on my car, and it has been a very expensive journey to maintain. I am like, that is a car I would have used wisely somewhere. I sold it. I have decided to go back on Uber,” explained Karanja.

The decision to sell the car was made amicably, with both parties agreeing to part ways with the vehicle due to practical considerations.

Karanja had shared an image of the BMW X3 just a day before publicly announcing his separation from Kate Actress in September 2023. The picture featured Karanja standing next to the sleek vehicle he had gifted Kate for her birthday in January 2020, a month after the birth of their child.

Kate Actress had joyfully celebrated the luxurious gift on her social media platforms in January 2020, sharing a video expressing gratitude and faith for the new ride.

The former couple, Karanja and Kate, clarified that the sale of the car was a mutual decision, debunking any suggestions of disputes. In a social media statement, Karanja emphasized, "I wish to officially document that the vehicle was sold with mutual consent, and there are no disputes with Kate, contrary to any portrayals suggesting otherwise." Kate Actress reposted the statement, urging followers to focus on watching the new season of "Becoming CEO" and redirecting any negative energy away from their personal matters.
