Kenyan comedian Mannerson Oduor Ochieng, popularly known as Akuku Danger, shared heart-wrenching news with his fans and followers on Sunday, July 30. Through his official Instagram page, he revealed the tragic passing of his younger sister, who, like him, was born with Sickle Cell disease. She succumbed to the deadly illness on Saturday night, leaving the comedian and his family devastated.
In a heartfelt post, Akuku Danger expressed his grief, writing, "Woke up to the saddest news😭😭 my small siz went to be with the Lord last night. Like me, she was born with sickle cell disease and she succumbed to it. Rest well warrior, Nind gi kwe Merwa🕊️😭."
Akuku Danger has been bravely battling sickle cell disease himself, which has caused him significant health challenges over the years. In a previous interview, he candidly discussed being born with sickle cell anemia, a genetic disorder that affects red blood cells, resulting in a shortage of healthy cells capable of efficiently transporting oxygen throughout the body.
In 2022, the comedian faced a particularly difficult period when his health deteriorated, leading to hospitalization. Struggling with breathing difficulties, he sought medical attention at Nairobi West Hospital, where he received the devastating news of collapsed lungs and pneumonia.
"I know my body, and since I have had sickle cell anemia since birth, I know when something is wrong. When I took myself to the hospital, I had breathing difficulties," he shared during an interview.
Akuku Danger's condition was serious enough that he was admitted immediately and later transferred to Nairobi West Hospital ICU, where he remained unconscious for four days.
The comedian's health struggles deeply touched the hearts of his friends, fans, and family, who rallied together to organize fundraising efforts to help cover the substantial medical expenses incurred during his hospitalization.
