A fundraising ceremony for Ochonjo took an unexpected turn when Kenyan actress and social media influencer Sandra Dacha clashed with comedian Mike Wako during the event on Thursday.
The heated argument, captured on video and shared by a local media outlet, showcased a bitter exchange of words between Sandra and Mike. Sandra accused Mike of allegedly abandoning Ochonjo during his difficult times.
Mike Wako Defends His Actions In his defense, Mike Wako vehemently denied abandoning Ochonjo and shed light on the circumstances that strained their relationship.
According to Mike, he made the decision to stop working with Ochonjo due to the latter's persistent struggles with alcohol abuse, which had a significant impact on their professional collaboration.
"Let me speak the truth. I used to work with Ochonjo, and the main reason I stopped working with him is what you all have been complaining about—alcohol," Mike stated.
Mike explained that when they initially started working together, Ochonjo was sober, and their working relationship was productive. However, following the loss of Ochonjo's mother, he turned back to alcohol, making it challenging for Mike to continue their partnership.
"When I began working with Ochonjo, he was a sober man. He had stopped drinking, and we were working well together. But after the loss of his mother, he went back to alcohol. It became difficult to work with him," Mike revealed.
Recognizing the challenges of collaborating with someone struggling with alcoholism, Mike shared that he had to move out of their shared house to have his own space. This decision ultimately led to the end of their collaboration.
Ochonjo's Illness Regarding Ochonjo's serious illness, Mike clarified that the next time he reached out to him was to offer him work. However, to his surprise, Ochonjo was already in the hospital.
Despite Ochonjo's desire for his condition to remain private, Mike took it upon himself to share the news on social media.
"When I found out he was unwell, I went there the next day and realized that his condition was not good. He needed help. That's why I made that video," Mike explained.
He believed that raising awareness about Ochonjo's situation was crucial to prompt people to come forward and provide the assistance he desperately needed.
Mike's decision to make the situation public stemmed from genuine concern for Ochonjo as both a friend and colleague.
"It was to create awareness for people to come forward. Many people didn't know where Ochonjo was. That was the only way to bring attention to his situation and seek help," Mike expressed.
Realizing the severity of Ochonjo's condition, he felt that urgent assistance was necessary, and making people aware of the situation was the best way to facilitate that.
Ochonjo sadly passed away on May 10 after being rushed to the hospital. His final resting place will be on Saturday, May 27, 2023.
