Kenya Gears Up for Utamaduni Day Celebrations

The State Department for Culture, The Arts, and Heritage is thrilled to announce the forthcoming celebration of Utamaduni Day on October 10th, 2023.

Formerly recognized as Moi Day, this significant occasion was redefined in 2020 through the Statute Miscellaneous Amendments Act No. 29 of 2020, with the aim of honoring and celebrating Kenya's rich cultural diversity.

The national festivities will take place at the prestigious Bomas of Kenya, graced by the esteemed presence of His Excellency Dr. William Ruto, the President of Kenya, along with other distinguished dignitaries.

Utamaduni Day serves as a poignant testament to the crucial role played by cultural diversity in advancing national unity, inclusive development, equity, and justice.

This year, the theme for the celebration is "Celebrating Our Unity Through Diversity."

In collaboration with counties throughout Kenya, The State Department for Culture, The Arts, and Heritage is leading the charge to ensure the success of Utamaduni Day 2023.

The primary focus of this year's celebration is to encourage public engagement, organize dynamic street fairs, and host food festivals that showcase our rich cultural traditions.

Ms. Ummi Bashir, the Principal Secretary for The State Department for Culture, The Arts, and Heritage, underscored the importance of Utamaduni Day, stating, "Utamaduni Day underscores Kenya's commitment to celebrating diversity and unity, paving the way for a more inclusive future."
